Section + Housing
Boston City Hall was a fascinating precedent to study spatial relationships, where every section is different at its structural bay. This studio focuses on modifying the analysis and further developing variants of spatial relations for residential use. The theme of this studio is “Religious Accommodation of Its Time", which we are asked to create a contemporary monastery for any religion, a religious place that also provides housing function at the same location as Boston City Hall.
“So…what happen if Muslims live in a mosque? A Mosqu-tery?”
This Mosqu-tery is designed to house Muslims who are dedicated to the study of Islam just like the monks in a western monastery. It includes residential units, academic places for Islamic theology, and most importantly, the mosque toward Mecca.
